Ruth: Hope for the Marginalized is unavailable, but you can change that!

Ruth was an outcast in Israelite society. As a widow and a Moabite, she was considered the least of God’s people. Yet God drew her from the fringe of society and incorporated her into both the community of Israel and his plan of salvation. In Ruth, we find a story of love, loyalty, and compassion. And we see how God works through ordinary people to achieve his great purposes.

Pray that the Holy Spirit would make you as committed to God as Ruth was to Naomi. Read Ruth 1:1–22. Reflect on Ruth 1:15–18. Ruth’s first speech is an eloquent display of loyalty. It would have been much easier for Ruth to return home and start fresh. What do you think motivated her to stay with Naomi? Read 1:17. What does this passage demonstrate about Ruth’s commitment to Naomi? Who or what are you committed to in your life? Are you as committed to God as Ruth was to Naomi?
